Disturbed is an American alternative metal band. Friends Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren and Steve Kmak (aka Fuzz) had been playing together for some time before singer David Draiman joined after the band's auditions in 1997, when the group adopted the name Disturbed. Draiman had almost given up his search for a band where he felt at home, but knew immediately at the audition that his future was there. In 2000, Disturbed released their debut album on Giant Records, titled The Sickness. This was the band's definitive breakthrough. The number of fans grew and their first performance was soon at Ozzfest in 2001. Around this time, they also recorded a theme song for wrestler Steve Austin, which was also played on the radio.
In 2003, Dan Donegan kicked guitarist Steve Kmak out of the band because the latter had personal problems with Draiman, and a replacement was sought. This was John Moyer, the bassist of The Union Underground. He eventually left his old band and focused entirely on Disturbed.
