Singer-songwriter who belongs to the absolute top of songwriters. King (actually named Carole Klein) started her career with her husband Gerry Goffin in the famous Brill Building. Using this songwriting office building as a base, they wrote at least 100 hit singles, including 'You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman' by Aretha Franklin, 'Up On The Roof' by the Drifters and 'Pleasant Valley' by the Monkees.
Oh Carol
In 1959, Neil Sedaka took Carole King as inspiration for his hit single 'Oh Carol'. King responded with the song 'O Neil'. However, her answer was not as big a hit as 'Oh Carol'.
Top 2000
In the 23rd edition of the Top 2000, Carole King is at number 1000 with You've Got A Friend.
Sunday Morning Classics: Tapestry
On 26 June 2022, Carole was our guest as Sunday Morning Classic with her album Tapestry.
After her moderately successful solo debut Writer, it was a hit in 1971 with Tapestry. The album stayed in the American charts for six years and contained hit singles such as 'It’s Too Late', 'I Feel The Earth Move' and 'You’ve Got A Friend'. Tapestry never made the album charts in the Netherlands and the single 'It's Too Late' did not get beyond the tip parade in 1971. More than 25 million copies were sold, making it one of the 50 best-selling albums ever. Carole King also received four Grammy Awards for the album.
