I consider Bløf one of the better Dutch-language bands, right from the very beginning. When I heard "Aan de kust" in 1995, I was driving near Oostburg in Zeeland and was sold. So far, I've only had the chance to see them live twice, which is really too few. The men of Bløf radiate energy and are a joy to listen to and watch.
Bløf
Bløf was founded in 1992. In the early years, they played as a cover band. Their first album with original songs, Naakt onder de hemel, was self-released. In 1998, Bløf became known to the general public with the single "Liefs uit Londen", after which the band's popularity rose sharply. The single came from their second album Helder. Following the success of "Liefs uit Londen", live versions of "Aan de kust" and "Wat zou je doen" from the debut album also became hits.
Band members: Paskal Jakobsen, Bas Kennis, Peter Slager, Chris Götte, Norman Bonink, Henk Tjoonk
In 2001, drummer Chris Götte died after a traffic accident. The band found a new drummer in Norman Bonink. Bonink had previously played in the Frank Boeijen Groep.
A new version of "Zoutelande" (a Dutch translation of the song "Frankfurt Oder" by Bosse, a track on the album Aan) was released in October 2017, this time as a duet with Geike Arnaert, which reached number 1 in the Mega Top 50 on 27 January 2018 and a week later also topped the Top 40. The single also became a number 1 hit in Flanders. Several times, the band has achieved the number 1 position for the most played artist/band in a year on Dutch radio.
After the success of "Zoutelande", Bløf recorded a new version of "Omarm" with rapper Ronnie Flex.
The band members' trophy cabinet is well stocked: their very first award was an encouragement prize from the province of Zeeland, and they have also won a TMF Award for best pop group, a Silver and Gold Harp award, an Edison for memorable achievements in the music industry, several 3FM Awards, and a 100% NL Award.
