Barbara Joan Streisand (24 April 1942) was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents were of Jewish descent. In her youth, she was a singer in a club. In 1962, she signed her first record contract and her debut album Barbra Streisand Album won two Grammys in 1963. Streisand's first number 1 album was People, which reached the top spot in October 1964. In the 60s, she also sang in musicals, appeared on television shows and made her first film. In total, Streisand has released more than sixty albums, including twelve soundtrack albums for films. She is the female artist with the most gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums. In 2000, she almost retired from live performance with her Timeless tour. Her last concert took place on 28 September 2000 at Madison Square Garden, New York. However, in 2006 she toured again in North America and Canada, together with Il Divo as her guest. The first concert of this tour took place on 4 October 2006 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the last concert on 20 November 2006 in Los Angeles, California. For the first time in her more than 40-year career, Barbra made a European tour in 2007. In 1994, she had already given some concerts in London, but in 2007 concerts took place in several European cities.
On 6 and 10 June 2013, she performed for the first time in the Netherlands at the Ziggo Dome. On 6 June, Streisand said she wanted to do a duet with British singer Adele and that she was writing a song about women and heart disease. In 2014, Barbra Streisand entered the Billboard 200 Chart at number one with Partners. This made her the first artist to reach the top spot of the chart with at least one album in six consecutive decades. Partners is Streisand's tenth number 1 album in the Billboard chart. This makes her the female record holder.
